The Active Exhaust System started with the Quiet Mode. One of the developers at Ford had the police called on him because their Mustang was so loud in the morning. Foerster decided to create a Quiet Mode by using a variable valve that you can open or close to control the sound coming from the exhaust system. The system also ensures that the exhaust fumes do not come back to the cabin to make the ride less comfortable.
Although other models may have an active exhaust system, but the Ford system is different. You can control the system through the touch of a button on your steering wheel and on the console. You can even schedule the system in advance so that the car will be ready to start quietly the following morning. The Quiet Mode was also referred to as the ”Good Neighbor Mode” as it allowed neighbors to live in peace without any of them waking up the others with engine noise.
